At this time of year it feels like the Spring birthdays and celebrations are in full swing but that the season is yet to catch up with us! There’s so little growing in the ground that we go back to the store cupboard for ideas – like this easy chocolate orange cake. It’s quick to whip up from some store cupboard ingredients and a juicy orange. We enjoyed this as a Mother’s Day cake but it’s perfect for a weekend treat for the family or with a coffee in the afternoon! We can never have enough cake, obviously, and this classic combination works really beautifully….

Apple Almond Sultana Cake
This pretty cake uses a decent quantity of cooking apples, so is very moist and keeps well for quite a few days, improving after the first day, so it’s a handy one to make ahead of time if that’s your style! It’s lovely with a cup of tea or served warm as a dessert. …
Blackcurrant muffins
Blackcurrants are abundant in our garden at the moment so Helen came up with this recipe to use some of them up. The result is a quick afternoon tea treat you can whip up in no time! If you can’t get your hands on blackcurrants, you could try substituting raspberries or brambles….
Use-it-before-you-lose-it Rhubarb Cake
Our rhubarb is nearly over for this year alas, so Helen came up with this delicious cake to make the most of it before the rhubarb patch gets a well-earned rest! If you’re a bit dubious about rhubarb, don’t be put off! The rhubarb isn’t too acidic here and gives the cake a pleasing fruity tasty, balanced out by the nuts, spices and ginger….
Fig & Orange Cake
A cake inspired by seasonal Spanish ingredients that will bring a little sunshine to your afternoon tea table. Lovely, tangy and moist, and of course, quick to make, this is a nice one to share with some friends. The fruit brings a natural sweetness so you really don’t need much extra, hence the small amount of agave syrup used here. We hope you like this!…
Sticky Toffee Date Cake
Last minute vegan gluten free christmas cake!
This is a really handy recipe for a last minute vegan Christmas cake if you didn’t make yours in October! It can also be made in advance and stored well wrapped until you’re ready to decorate it, just before Christmas. This suits many dietary requirements so perfect for whoever turns up at your door over the Festive season!…
Nutty Fruit Cake
Our friend Ruth gave us the original idea for this Christmassy treat – with a bit of tweaking we’ve made it gluten free and sugar free, although there is technically sugar in candied peel and glacé cherries – you can just omit these if you like – it will still work very nicely! It’s not really a cake – more of a nutty fruity slab ! Which means it’s quite solid – ( in a good way! )…
Hazelnut Chocolate Torte
We were feeling a little in need of some indulgence this week so we called upon the trusted flavours of chocolate and hazelnut to pep up us. A festive decoration of pomegranate seeds and a grating of orange zest, and this becomes a lovely festive dessert or tea time treat. You could also serve it with some fresh orange segments or a raspberry sorbet (recipe coming soon)!…
