Use-it-before-you-lose-it Rhubarb Cake
Our rhubarb is nearly over for this year alas, so Helen came up with this delicious cake to make the most of it before the rhubarb patch gets a well-earned rest! If you’re a bit dubious about rhubarb, don’t be put off! The rhubarb isn’t too acidic here and gives the cake a pleasing fruity tasty, balanced out by the nuts, spices and ginger….

Helen’s Dal
Brilliant served as a stand alone dish with rice or as part of a big Indian feast, this is healthy, quick and speedy dal. This noodle salad is packed with bright hues of orange and red and purple as well as a brilliant combination of tastes to make you forget it’s grey and dull outside! Keep this sunshine inside with this great lunch dish. …
Chocolate Ginger Soufflé

These light and fluffy soufflés can be prepared earlier in the day if you want to make them for friends but not be whisking noisily when your guests are there. Make them and put the mixture into the ramekins and leave in a cool but not cold place until you’re ready to cook them. Serves 6…
Winter veg and Chickpea Noodle Stir Fry
When you crave a bit of colour as well as a good dose of vegetables but don’t want to get too full with heavy Winter food, this is a great recipe. Perfect for a midweek meal as it’s ready in around 20 minutes, you can really keep the goodness of the veg intact by not cooking anything for too long here. With the zing of ginger, lemon or lime, garlic and chilli, this doesn’t disappoint on flavour and is an easy dish to substitute other veg into – whatever you have in the fridge! Serves 3…

Potato and Chard Curry
We really love curry. This one is Helen’s Friday night favourite for Autumn. Served with basmati rice, tasty home made chutney and a good raita, there really is no better comfort food. You could add French beans to this if you have them, but otherwise it’s great just as it is. Quick, fragrant and very easy to make, it will go down a storm. If you can’t get chard, use spinach with large leaves….
